It seems strange to think that Daryl Gurney could quit PDC darts before Raymond van Barneveld.

But while Barney has committed to another year on the PDC circuit, Gurney doesn't seem so sure. The Northern Irishman has dropped a surprising bombshell. Speaking to , suggested World Championship glory could spell the end for him. "In all honesty, it could nearly mean retirement," said Superchin. "Not with the money, just retiring altogether. Because if you win the worlds you’re immortal, you'll be remembered forever. "But obviously it’s the one everybody wants to win. That’s what makes it so hard, and that’s why everybody keeps talking about whenever it gets probably to September. "Around that time of the year, everybody just concentrates on the worlds, putting in their couple of months practice prior to Ally Pally." Gurney isn't planning for life after darts at the moment. But he has put the Sid Waddell Trophy on his list of trophies to win before he goes. And the 2017 World Grand Prix winner believes he has the game to take the sport's biggest prize. "Definitely, I’d love to win it sometime before I retire - should it be this year, next year, or the next five or 10 years," Gurney said. "If I'm still playing at the top level and I’m still capable of winning it, I’ll keep on believing that one day I could win that trophy."
