Phillips opened his 2018
BDO World Championship account with a 3-1 defeat of Daniel Day. Dobromyslova followed that up by matching Aileen de Graaf's earlier achievement of winning all six legs in a 2-0 win.
Ninth seed Phillips was in control as he held off debutant Day. The Welshman averaged just 83.23, but that and a 28 per cent success rate on doubles was enough to see him through. Day did not reach the high standard he set in his preliminary round defeat of Craig Caldwell, winning one set but succumbing to the veteran. Phillips' 16th
Lakeside campaign will continue against Jamie Hughes or Michael Unterbuchner in the second round.
Three-time world champion Dobromyslova also averaged 83, the highest of the women's championship so far, as she thrashed Anca Zijlstra. Each notched up a 180, but the Russian star's scoring was too much for the Phoenix to handle. A potential showdown with 2017's best performer, Lorraine Winstanley, awaits Dobromyslova.
