Dartsnews.com caught up with Rob Szabo (as well as Rhys Mathewson which was posted yesterday) ahead of the Perth Darts Masters this weekend (August 25-27th) to discuss this weekends event, the World Series in general, the World Championship and the World Cup of Darts.
Dartsnews : You are once again appearing in the World Series this weekend, what are your thoughts and aims going into the weekend??
Rob Szabo : This weekend in Perth my main goal is to win my first game then go from there.
Dartsnews : You lost to Michael Smith 6-0 in your last World Series outing, are you eager to do better in Perth??
Rob Szabo : Yes I'm going to try and redeem myself after Auckland in saying that Michael threw fantastic darts and after 4 legs he had a 119 average so very hard to play against that sort of form.
Dartsnews : You have previously played at the World Championship twice, how is it to play on the Alexandra Palace stage ??
Rob Szabo : Alexandra Palace is an awesome venue with a lot of history and one of my favorite venues.
Dartsnews : Going back to The World Series, it improves year and year with Corey Cadby taking on Kyle Anderson in the final at Auckland being a perfect example, what are your thoughts on the importance of the World Series to players??
Rob Szabo : The world series is a vital part of darts because it gives opportunities for players to play against the best in the world and to gain experience on the big stage with lights, cameras and loud audiences which they are not used to. Also gives the PDC a look into new and up and coming players.
Dartsnews : Finally you have also played at the World Cup of Darts most recently playing with Cody Harris, how is it to represent your country in an event like that??
The World Cup is a fantastic opportunity to represent your country against other countries with world class players. The atmosphere at the venue and especially at the players accommodation is fantastic and you get to meet a lot of different players and making new friends is great.

- I agree. With the number of tournaments these days?, Phil could probably earn £2 million a year if still playing. I can't believe Chisnall has earned over half a million for being so inept, he barely gets past the first round, stealing a living. That's outrageous.richieburnettrocks26-11-2024
- As prize money increases each year and there are now more tournaments then logically breaking the £2 million barrier is going to happen, only thing preventing it is the now deeper strength in depth of the darting field. If you took Taylor’s best two consecutive years and substituted the prize money from now onto the tournaments he won he would have passed the £2 million.Mysstree26-11-2024
- Only Gary Anderson in MVG’s quarter who should really trouble him assuming he wins his first two games. If he can’t get out of that quarter of the draw he will be hard pushed to win another World Title.Mysstree26-11-2024
