Raymond van Barneveld started off the German Darts Masters by defeating German qualifier Stefan Stoyke. Barney averaged 90 in a 6-3 triumph but almost folded after a superb start which saw him look like he was going to breeze past Stoyke but a comeback from the German nearly saw him come back but a tie with either Gary Anderson or Max Hopp now awaits the Dutch maestro.
Daryl Gurney was the next man to progress in Dusseldorf with no shocks taking place as of yet. He whitewashed German qualifier and tour card holder Maik Langendorf and could play Phil Taylor in Round 2. He was only in second gear for the most part but looked good in his first round win.
