Michael van Gerwen and Rob Cross came together at a media event this past Monday to promote the expanded World Championship. One of the main features of this was the inclusion of two ladies qualifiers and Van Gerwen discussed this in an interview with Sky Sports.

He wouldn't like to lose to a woman but Van Gerwen even said he wouldn't like losing to anyone and that he has to beat everyone to win the title. Mighty Mike discussed Fallon Sherrock who claimed the World Trophy with multiple mid nineties averages and has said players like Sherrock will now have an opportunity to do it against the men. He ended off by speaking about the prize money and said about how it is good for them as reaching the second round would be more than winning the Lakeside which as a result is all good for darts as it gives the women more chances to earn more money. "Why wouldn't a woman be as good as a man? I wouldn't like to lose to a woman, but I don't like losing to anyone," says van Gerwen. "Fallon Sherrock won a tournament at the weekend with a 96 average, she would now have the chance to try and do that against the men. "The prize money is going up, the field is getting bigger, it's all good for darts and it will give the women a chance to win more money by getting to the second round in the PDC than they would get for winning the women's title in the BDO."
