Van Gerwen speaks ahead of Grand Slam: ‘I really love this tournament’

Michael van Gerwen will aim to defend his Grand Slam title once again over the next week despite him not having the best results as of late.
For Van Gerwen though he admitted that any tournament he doesn’t win is bad but that he believes he is still the most feared opponent out there. "I really love this tournament, I think it suits me well. Everybody can see that from my results and performances in the last three years when I won it," said Van Gerwen. "I did it without losing a match in any of those tournaments, which is a record I am really proud of and one I would like to continue. "I have had a couple of bad tournaments recently. Any tournament I don’t win is a bad one for me but that doesn’t say anything for this one – the same as it wouldn’t say anything if I had won the last two tournaments. "I am still the most feared opponent for everyone and I know that if I play my best, I win. It is simple as that."

- It happens. Remember, anyone who has watched German and Dutch players in matches - their respective countries will have seen/heard just as bad jeering (if not worse). Taylor and MVG are two prime examples of professionals who are able to cope with the crowds mentally and not take it personally. This is not just an English crowd problem, FFS.MrYnyslas197116-11-2024
- Was watching an old World Masters final the other day between Eric Bristow and John Lowe, the crowd respect for both players on throw was first class, not a sound. You can imagine now the idiots who were whistling on De Deckers throw proudly boasting about it on social media. I blame the PDC to a certain extent though doubt they really care as they win regardless of which player wins or loses.Mysstree16-11-2024

I even turned to my husband and said "Could you imagine this happening if Russ Bray was the referee tonight? At least there would have been a crowd admonishment- Ladies and Gentleman please."
