GRANDSLAM QF TAYLOR 5
The countdown to the World Championship continues. Yesterday, the PDC posted this video of a classic final from 1995. Phil Taylor was the two-time world champion going into the 1995 Worlds, but had yet to win the biggest PDC title of all. Though, in his defence, there had only been one staged at that point.
Ranked fourth for the tournament, Taylor won a group featuring Americans Sean Downs and Gerald Verrier. Bob Anderson was swatted aside in the quarter-finals, before John Lowe fell victim to the second-highest average of the entire tournament (0.51 off his 96.78 in the quarters). Rod Harrington stood between Taylor and the £12,000 grand prize.
'The Power' was not to be stopped as he cantered to victory at the Circus Tavern, defeating Harrington 6-2. A mere 13 more titles followed. Could he spring one last surprise at the Alexandra Palace this winter?
Take a look at the slightly unusual double Taylor hit to secure the title...
