Anderson diminishes openness of World Championship after Van Duijvenbode win: "There are no easy games now"

Gary Anderson is through to the semi-finals of the 2020/21 PDC World Darts Championship after seeing off Dirk van Duijvenbode with ease.

Anderson will now be one of the favourites for the title heading into his tie with Dave Chisnall after the exit of Michael van Gerwen and he admitted afterwards it is probably the best he has played in a long time.

"Probably for a long time, probably for the last two years to be honest. I lost the first set, Dirk took the first set and I thought I actually played well," said Anderson post match.

He went for a lot of finishes with two double 20's and he said it isn't flashy on his part, it is just easier for him to play the game like that and he also diminished the potential openness of the field this year.

"131, 134, 137. I've always said I'll have one dart at a treble and if that goes in you get three darts at two double 20. I'd rather have two darts at two double 20's then have six darts at double 10. It's not flashy, I just think it's easier for me."

"I did have a chance to win three back-to-back but that Dutch fella beat me, I can't remember what his name was," he joked.

"I just want to play darts so I've got to thank the boys for riling me up. If I can upset a few people I'm going to try."

"It's never open, not nowadays. You've seen Dirk come out of nowhere the last 12 months. There are no easy games now."
