Anderson on COVID-19 outbreak at World Darts Championship: "Call it a day, do away with it this year"

Gary Anderson completed a comeback from 3-0 down to see off Ian White 4-3 to reach the Last 16 of the PDC World Darts Championship as his run continues at the Ally Pally.

He summed up his performance post match and Anderson wasn't pleased with it but always knew he could pull it back.

"It was absolutely atrocious to be honest. Absolutely rotten but we got there, once we nicked it back to 3-3, I was having a wee grunt to myself saying I can have this now, Ian was starting to struggle but even when he was 3-0 up, I didn't think he wasn't playing well. I definitely wasn't," said Anderson post match.

Cross tie

Next up is Rob Cross and when asked what he has to do to get through that, he said he needs to up his game and teased a potential return to his old darts.

"Up a few levels to be honest but I think I've got a really good record against Rob. I may play with the new darts, I might go back to the old ones we shall see. But I think if I went back to the old ones, I would not have won tonight."

Van Gerwen COVID

A lot of conversation has come regarding positive COVID tests and an outbreak of sorts at the tournament and if it was up to Anderson, he would postpone or cancel the tournament.

"I think it doesn't really help anybody. I think it's hard, for me it's not right. You've got players losing money, you've got players gaining money and it's going to be a shambles for the next few months on the rankings. What could we do shut us down, go by the first round losers get paid, winners get paid call it a day, do away with it this year."

"Everyday there's someone else getting it so I don't know it's one of these things but if I miss my holiday, god help you," he joked.
