"As it stands, this is it": One and done for Darren Penhall with retirement imminent after Ally Pally debut

Cornwall thrower but Australia based, Darren Penhall is a former Tour Card holder who came through the DPA route and sealed his debut World Darts Championship win on Saturday.

Penhall denied Jules van Dongen in the process in an impressive display of finishing. But interestingly, Joe Cullen's next foe will be retiring from darts again after his Ally Pally debut.

He said post match that it was very much his friend who had never seen him play that swayed him to even return and that he has no aspirations right now to return to the tour after saying on his way into media that he'd waited 45 years for this moment. He is certainly making it count and will look to continue that against 'The Rockstar'.

"This was all about just playing until this. That was it really. We had a go at it and even though I'm playing better now, we keep talking me and my wife that maybe I'm not finished as I'm playing some good stuff," said Penhall post match.

"This is meant to be it but you don't know. Maybe World Seniors, I fancy a crack at that I don't know. To play darts you've got to be in England, it was only this year my best mate who lives in Australia had never watched me play when I was over here so he got me playing again."

"He kept plying me with drinks and I said no. I said I'll play until then I qualified for this. As it stands, this is it."
