Steve Beaton has moved through to the second round of the Gibraltar Darts Trophy without playing a game after receiving a bye through to play Michael van Gerwen.
Beaton was due to face Host Nation Qualifier, Justin Hewitt but the World Cup star withdrew due to illness after winning through yesterday and will not grace the stage.
As a result, 'The Bronzed Adonis' will start his campaign on Saturday evening.
Though I am Steve Beaton fan of longstanding I do feel for Hewitt. This time yesterday I was feeling fine but have been ill overnight and through the day. It's not pleasant so must been dreadful if it has forced him out of the event.
