The PDC recently made a rule change regarding qualification criteria for the European Tour. But not everyone agrees.
In the podcast "Double Top,"
Berry van Peer was a guest to give his opinion on these new qualification criteria, which will make it especially difficult for players outside the top 16 to qualify for European Tour tournaments. "It's devastating for players who come in at the bottom of the rankings, like myself," said Van Peer, who won the Challenge Tour last year, securing himself a Tour Card for the next two years.
"Don't get me wrong, if you perform well, you can still force qualification for one of these tournaments. But for the top-16 it will be much easier and for the others much harder."
Van Peer sees another major drawback of the new qualifying criteria. "It becomes a monotonous thing, with a lot of the same players. Last year you sometimes had outliers, like Wesley Plaisier for example. People love to see that, but now that's going to happen much less, it's all going to be much more boring."
"It will be a kind of World Matchplay, but with a round of padding. Oh well, the PDC sets the rules, so we'll have to learn to live with it anyway."
