Damon Heta is into the last 16 at the
PDC World Darts Championship following a thrilling, rollercoaster of a tie against
Berry van Peer. The Australian winning 4-3.
Van Peer, who had already knocked out Luke Woodhouse and Josh Rock, got off to an excellent start against Heta and won the first two sets comfortably.
However, Van Peer was broken right away in the third set, which 'Bionic' had the darts in. Set three then went 3-0 to Heta and the Aussie took the fourth set 3-2 to even the score.
Van Peer then took the lead in the fifth set with a 13-darter, but then he was not out in six visits in the third leg. Heta tossed a 16-darter for a break and then rallied with a 13-darter to take a 3-2 lead in sets. Heta then looked to decide it in six sets, but Van Peer had other ideas. After four misses by Heta for a 2-1 lead, the Dutchman threw out 108 for a break. Van Peer then forced a deciding set with a fine 11-darter.
Van Peer's misses in the first leg of the final set eventually proved fatal. 'Bionic' missed four darts on the dice, after which Heta broke the tie with a 22-darter. He then doubled the lead with a 114 check-out. Van Peer closed to 2-1, but then Heta decided the game with a brilliant 151 finish.
