After wins over James Wade and Michael Smith in the opening two rounds,
Chris Dobey saw his participation at the 2023
World Matchplay come to an end after a 16-12 defeat against good friend
Nathan Aspinall.
Just before the second break, Dobey was still leading 6-3 with a double break, but Aspinall managed to make up one break deficit just before the break. In the remainder of the match, the momentum shifted more and more to 'The Asp,' much to Dobey's disappointment.
''Not gonna lie and say I’m not gutted coz I am, I just don’t know what happened up there tonight I felt so flat mid-game and I think that was the point where I lost it, but fair play to Nathan Aspinall been brilliant all week. Love ya pal, all the best." Dobey wrote on his official Twitter afterwards.
