Chris Dobey is through to the Quarter-Finals of the
World Grand Prix after seeing off Adrian Lewis in a dramatic sudden death win and will now face Michael van Gerwen.
"I'm just relieved, it's a hard one to take trying to pick my performance up from the first set, it was very very poor and I was very disappointed so I decided to stay on stage and find my foot and I think that worked a treat. It's hard when you miss match darts and he goes out to take it to a decider. You're thinking why does it always happen to me but like I say I never give up and fight until the end and managed to get there," said Dobey post match.
Losing to Rob Cross at World Matchplay which he admitted to bottling, he was pleased to get over that and start a potential run at another major tournament.
"I bottled it, no-one should throw away leads like that during the World Matchplay and that goes for anybody and when you're that comfortable in front, it was my fault. I went off the stage and should have stayed on. I only needed two legs to close it out and it was my own fault. I went home and put the work in for the next ProTours and reached a semi and quarter. I didn't dwell on it too much, I'm due another good game after that poor performance."
In terms of his future goals, they include a Masters appearance and finally beating Michael van Gerwen next up.
"I've got my sights on the Masters, I haven't quite got my sights set on the top 16 yet but if I have a good back end of the year and take it into the World's, there's no reason I can't push into the top 16."
"I'm still yet to beat him (Van Gerwen), why can't this be the time. He's coming back for sure, he's not as consistent as he once was. How can he be that consistent all the time it's never going to happen. He's that good of a player, he's won so many competitions, he cannot keep it up. I still put him as the best player in the world without a doubt, his A game is a different level but I feel confident I can beat him if I bring my A game."
