Glen Durrant won through his opener at the 2020/21 PDC World Darts Championship seeing off Diogo Portela with relative ease but he cut a disappointed figure on the oche as the victor.
Durrant has gone through a slump in form since his Premier League triumph and his subsequent COVID-19 positive test and he called himself 'weak' mentally in the post match interview.
"I'm just looking for a big win right now, I'm in this 4-5 week slump and I've been playing with Gabriel Clemens and I've been playing so much better than that. The game of darts, a lot of it is in your mind and I was weak tonight," said Durrant post match.
"I'm pretty disappointed in my behaviour. As in the way I produce darts tonight. I'm just a little bit disappointed in myself there."
"I'm not here to have an 88 average, I thought there was better than that tonight."
The three time Lakeside World Champion said that he is no longer using COVID as an excuse and echoes the previous comments about something not being right mentally.
"I think there was a couple of technical things. We go back to playing Simon Whitlock and averaging 118 at the Autumn Series 4-0 up, there's a little something which has come into my game which is not right with the throw."
"I had a chat with Wayne Mardle, see if he could help me and he told me everything I thought was the problem with my game. The COVID is a great excuse, it's an easy excuse. I feel fit, I feel strong. That's not the real issue, I was abit weak in the mind."
