Dutch darts channel RTL knows 'formally nothing' about losing broadcasting rights

On Monday night, the news came out that RTL 7 had lost the broadcasting rights of the darts tournaments in the Netherlands to the Nordic Entertainment Group. Sports marketer Chris Woerts revealed this during a Veronica Inside broadcast on Monday evening.

Woerts also reported that the Scandinavian company wants to set up a new sports station in the Netherlands and has also bought the rights to broadcast the German football league (Bundesliga) and Formula 1. On Tuesday, the current Dutch Formula 1 broadcaster Ziggo confirmed that it has lost the broadcasting rights to the Nordic Entertainment Group.

RTL has not yet confirmed this. ''At this moment we are in discussion and we have not yet heard a formal decision'', the current Dutch darts broadcaster told AD.nl.

The current contract between the PDC and RTL 7 about the broadcasting rights of darts tournaments expires after the upcoming World Darts Championship.

There also were rumors that from 2022 the big majors remain with RTL 7, while the smaller TV events can be seen on Viaplay, the streaming platform from the Nordic Entertainment Group.
