It used to invariably be a scene at major tournaments, the players entering the stage flanked by two pretty ladies.
But in 2018, the PDC decided to abolish the walk on girls. This to the dismay of tens of thousands of disappointed darts followers, who signed a petition to reintroduce the walk on girls. Five-time world champion
Raymond van Barneveld also called for their reintroduction. To no avail, however, the PDC stuck to its position.
Still, the ladies remain popular, with
Daniella Allfree and
Charlotte Wood now launching a calendar for the eighth time. "We’ve been doing the calendar for eight years now. We just try and mix it up really. Sometimes we ask the fans what they want to see but they seem to like whatever we do! We’ve always had a really good response from them," Wood says to the Daily Star.
The girls are always open to different themes for the calendar. "We’ve gone a little bit Barbieish to go with the current trend. There’s plenty of pinks and baby kind of colours so we’ve gone a bit Barbiesque. We couldn’t have dreamt to still be doing them now but we get asked every year. We’re on number eight now and the target is 10."
