Gabriel Clemens has made an excellent start to the World Darts Championship. 'The German Giant' defeated Man Lok Leung 3-1 in his opening match.
Leung had provided a shock in the first round by sending Gian van Veen home. "I feel great, it's a big win for me," Clemens opened. "Man Lok played amazing first round. I think he played today a good game, but I had the better moments. The finishing it was good in the important moments, that's a good win for me."
Clemens made it to the semifinals at the World Championship last year, but has since struggled to show that kind of form. "The Players Championship Finals was a good thing for me but I have not the best at the majors. I played really badly."
The 40-year-old German will be supported at Alexandra Palace by a crowd of German supporters. "It's fantastic that so many German fans have made the crossing. Hearing your name chanted really gives you goosebumps, and at a lesser moment in the match, some extra support can help you get right on top."
Clemens will take on Dave Chisnall in the third round. "Dave is a great player, maybe one of the best in the world. But I am going from my own strength, if I reach my best level I can definitely win against him. It is a match I am looking forward to, if we both perform it will be a great viewing."
