Day eight of the 2024 World Darts Championship awaits us today. Friday afternoon Dirk van Duijvenbode, Krzysztof Ratajski and Jose de Sousa, among others, begin their tournament at Alexandra Palace.

The big question, of course, is how Van Duijvenbode will appear at the start of the World Darts Championship. 'Aubergenius' at least got an extra week to continue working on the recovery from his shoulder injury. Because of this injury, Van Duijvenbode did not come close to the level at the Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals with which he won three floor titles and reached two finals on the Euro Tour earlier this year. It will also have to be better, because with Boris Krcmar, Van Duijvenbode faces a dangerous customer in the second round of the World Darts Championship. Swedish Dutchman Jeffrey de Graaf is also involved again. After his great comeback against Ritchie Edhouse (from 0-2 down to 3-2 win) he will meet Jose de Sousa. The Portuguese is no longer a shadow of the 180-canon that won the Grand Slam of Darts in 2020. De Sousa is still the favorite, but De Graaf will undoubtedly cautiously dream of a place in the last 32.

The afternoon session kicks off with a Northern Irish clash between Brendan Dolan and Mickey Mansell. They will decide between themselves who will be Gerwyn Price's opponent in the next round.

The remaining match of this session is between Krzysztof Ratajski and Jamie Hughes, who finally won a match on the Alexandra Palace stage earlier this tournament for the first time in his career. He defeated David Cameron 3-1 in sets, leaving 'Yozza' to face the former World Matchplay semifinalist. The Pole had another fine season in 2023, including a Euro Tour title and a Players Championship title.
