Gerwyn Price will be Luke Littler's opponent in the final of the Australian Darts Masters. After Littler won 7-6 over Dimitri van den Bergh in the first semifinal, 'The Iceman' was just too strong for Peter Wright (7-6) in the second semifinal.
Price was put at a considerable disadvantage early in the match by Wright, who appeared to be on his way to his first final of the season. 'Snakebite' broke his Welsh opponent in the first leg with a 17-darter and doubled the lead with a 121 check-out. A second break for Wright followed in the third leg after he managed to throw a 96 finish.
However, Wright was unable to cash in on that double break. He missed two chances to make it 4-0 before Price got on the scoreboard with a 56 finish. 'The Iceman' then came back quickly to 3-3 via a 12-darter and a 13-darter.
Price then took the lead for the first time in the match by throwing a 16-darter in the seventh leg. Wright tied the score again with an 18-darter in leg eight, before the lead went back to Price after the former world champion threw a fine 67 finish. In the tenth leg, Price missed one chance to double his lead. Wright threw out 70 to make it 5-5. Both men then held their own leg again, requiring a deciding leg to determine a winner.
Price started the final leg slowly with scores of 55 and 100, while Wright got off to a good start with two 140 scores. The engine faltered for Wright, who went two visits without a treble. Price came back strongly with a score of 100 and 140 and could play from 106 for the win. Via triple 18, single 12 and double 20 Price snatched victory from Wright.
