Gerwyn Price will not be seen at this year's Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton. Via Instagram Stories, 'The Iceman' announced that he will play only two more tournaments in 2024.
Since Price has failed to reach a major final in the past 12 months, the Welshman was due to compete in the qualifying tournament for the Grand Slam of Darts on Nov. 1. But the former rugby player has no appetite for that. He is also not competing in the last two Players Championship tournaments of the season.
He announced this after losing to Daryl Gurney in the first round of the European Darts Championship on Thursday night. ''Gutted with the loss, played better than I expected really considering, but credit to Daryl, he took his chances and decent darts. A nice month off now and 2 events left of 2024. Hopefully a positive finish as well,'' Price wrote.
In the past, Price has been quite successful at the Grand Slam of Darts. The former world champion managed to win this tournament in 2018, 2019 and 2021. In 2022, he reached the quarterfinals, the result he thus had to defend on the world rankings this year. Thus, due to absence, 25,000 pounds will soon disappear from his ranking.
