On Saturday, the 2023 edition of the
Grand Slam of Darts gets underway in Wolverhampton. Michael Smith begins the tournament as defending champion after defeating Nathan Aspinall in last year's final.
Still, former Grand Slam semi-finalist
Glen Durrant does not think Smith will succeed once again. "When I think of the Grand Slam, I think of
Gerwyn Price," Durrant told Sky Sports before laying out a very specific prediction. "Price to beat
Danny Noppert 18-12 in the final."
Given the unique nature of the Grand Slam though, seeds can fall before reaching the business end of the tournament. "I'm really nervous for
Jonny Clayton," Durrant admits in this regard. "I don't know how well Nathan Aspinall is playing right now, he needs to bounce back but Jonny's in a tough group there."
Looking at the group stage as a whole, there are plenty of enticing ties but for 'Duzza', one, in particular, stands out from the rest. "Opening night,
Michael van Gerwen versus
Fallon Sherrock, that will be spectacular."
