Gwynne recounts Van den Bergh's stunning 10-darter on the bull to beat Taylor in Australia

Dimitri van den Bergh has shown his talent for a long time on the big stage and he fulfilled it with his World Matchplay triumph but a moment that is potentially forgotten about is when he defeated Phil Taylor during an exhibition in Australia.

He ended up winning 7-5 against Taylor with a 105.33 average; he hit a 10-darter on the bull and John Gwynne was there and recalled the story on a recent episode of the Weekly Dartscast.

"I got to know Dimitri very well and realised that he was not just a darn good player but a very genuine guy. Incidentally on one of the tournaments; he met Phil Taylor in the final. It was Matchplay; it was best of 15 7-7. No need to win by two clear legs," said Gwynne on the Weekly Dartscast.

"Dimitri completed a 10 darter on the bull. I said there's no way Dimitri van den Bergh will be going for the bull here; he'll split it. He'll go ten double 20 or 18 double 16 having thrown nine darts and what did he do he stepped up and in his own cool manner, he hit the bull.

I asked Phil Taylor about it afterwards and said was this a kind of gamesmanship; did Phil not like it. He said no were out here to give an exhibition to show people what good darts is really like; I applauded it, good luck to the lad."
