Damon Heta is into the Last 32 of the PDC
World Darts Championship for the first time after seeing off Luke Woodhouse.
This comes after Heta lost out to Danny Baggish last year which he admitted was a 'learning curve' which he was glad to get over.
"Last year I had to put it down as a big learning curve. As much as I was playing well up to there, I was a heavy favourite - I put that expectation on myself to turn up and I didn't. I've done well this year, to get the win today was the priority, no matter how good or bad I played," said Heta post match.
He received booing from certain sections of the crowd potentially relating to the ongoing Ashes and he said next time he may as well go all the way.
"I said to the missus maybe I should walk out with my cricket bat and my Wallabies jersey."
"I don't think you're going to get it here but in other tournaments, when you've got that one dude just whistling or says your name but when it's like this you've got to take it on the chin and be there in the moment I think."
He also summed up his year and believes he has made steady improvement from 2020.
"I've gone one step further this year in most tournaments. I think just qualifying for things at certain stages. I've stayed in the top 16 in the ProTour for the whole time so that qualifies you for pretty much everything. That was a massive thing. There's a crazy load of players that want your spot so I'm better off than most."
