Luke Humphries reached his maiden major final at the turn of the month at the UK Open losing to James Wade in the final at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.
It was a coming of age of sorts for Humphries who went from losing last leg deciders consistently on the ProTour after initially reaching milestones at the World Championship.
He spoke to Josh's Dartistry for his latest podcast about his form woes over the past year and how it has all been down to being unlucky.
"I did get a bit of a name for it for losing last leg deciders but it wasn't any fact of me bottling it. It would be they'd throw 15 or 12 darts, there's not really much I could do. I sort of got out of that in the back end of last year and then it started happening again. But it's nothing I worry about," said Humphries to Josh's Dartistry.
He also discussed where the achievement of the UK Open ranks for him compared to the World Championship Quarter-Finals and World Youth Championship.
"They are all great achievements so it's hard to judge where to put then, where to rank them. Winning the World Youth title, many people might think that's not really nothing to shout about. For me I think it is. I'd obviously wanted to win a World Youth title and then win the proper World title. That's a great stepping stone."
"Then you move onto the Quarter-Finals of the World Championship. Biggest competition there is, two Quarter-Finals was fantastic. I think that reaching a major final and the way I did it on the final day was probably the greatest weekend of my life. Obviously I wanted to win it and then there would have been no doubt that it would have been."
