Gerwyn Price withdrew from this week's Players Championship events in Wigan, claiming the venue was too cold and deciding against playing in 'less than amateur conditions',
Michael Smith took to X (formerly Twitter) to poke fun after his Players Championship 2 defeat yesterday.
While in the middle of his contest with Brendan Dolan on Monday in Players Championship 1, Price quit due to the cold, despite him nailing a 111 average in a previous round, claiming they were absolutely pathetic conditions.
However, while Price missed Players Championship 2 yesterday, Smith played but was knocked out in round one by Danny Lauby, with Smith jokingly laying blame on the conditions for his defeat.
He said on X: "Wasn’t the best today. I couldn’t breathe. It was ridiculously hot today."
After Gezzy complained, a PDC spokesperson confirmed their understanding that he left due to the cold and while we do not know whether the conditions at Robin Park Arena had improved, the temperatures had no hold on the standard of play in the two events.
In response to Smith's remark, Price responded on Instagram saying: "Glad I gave it a miss", with a cry-laughing emoji.
We are yet to know whether the temperatures in Wigan will continue to be a problem for the Iceman going forward in future Players Championship events.
However, he will have to contend with a chilly night in Glasgow as Night 3 of the Premier League moves to Scotland on Thursday.
