"I definitely have unfinished business over there" - Leonard Gates already looking to the Ally Pally after latest CDC Tour title win

Leonard Gates took his third CDC Tour title of the season over the last weekend. As such, American darter is well on track to make an appearance at the Alexandra Palace for the PDC World Darts Championship later this year.

Through the CDC Tour, the best Canadian player and best American dart player qualify for the World Darts Championship. David Cameron is currently the highest ranked player from Canada. Gates already started the ninth tournament of the CDC Tour as the best American dart player and with his title win, managed to extend his lead over rival Stowe Buntz, who lost out in the quarter-finals.

"Coming into this weekend, I said to myself 'I'm always winning the second or third event, but this time I want to picture myself winning the first event of the weekend," Gates reflects after his title win in the 'Soulger's post-match interview. "Guess what? Here it is, I won the first event!"

In his entire career, Gates had now amassed himself the very creditable tally of 11 CDC Tour title wins. When asked if this makes him the greatest player in CDC history, "If the numbers speak for themselves, then yes it does," Gates answers confidently. "But I want to put a stamp on it so it's not just me saying it, it's everybody saying it."

Finally, as mentioned, Gates is also now holding a very strong chance of returning to the Ally Pally this December. "I definitely have unfinished buisness over there," Gates assesses, having reached the second round in his only previous appearance back at the 2023 edition, before losing out to Stephen Bunting. "Now, I've got that experience, I've got that exposure and I've got that knowledge of how to prepare. Hopefully, this time around, I can go there and show that," the 53-year-old Texan concludes.
