Lisa Ashton took back to back glory on Sunday as she triumphed at tournaments 11 and 12 of the 2024 PDC
Women's Series. As a result, she moved up to 4th place in the overall Women's Series Order of Merit.
"After yesterday's performance, I've come back and to do that, I just can't ask for anything better," 'The Lancashire Rose' reflects after her second title win of the day, in a post-match interview with the PDC, noting the fact that in Saturday's two tournaments, she had failed to even win a game. "I thought I've got to dig in today. I've got to get some points for the Matchplay and that's what I've done."
As she touched upon there, with these two successes, Ashton has also qualified for the Women's World Matchplay, to be played next month at the iconic Winter Gardens in Blackpool. "I'll take that absolutely. I've been up and down but I'm going to take all the inspiration from what I've done today, keep going, keep doing what I'm doing and hopefully I'll be right for the Matchplay," Ashton assesses.
Ashton beat Fallon Sherrock 4-3 in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Women's World Matchplay
In the 53-year-old's two previous visits to the Women's World Matchplay, it's been semi-final heartache on both occasions. Arguably now coming into the 2024 edition as the form player, is it Ashton's time to shine in Blackpool? "I put so much pressure on myself but now, I'm just going to relax and play. I'll let the young ones take the pressure," Ashton smiles. "Hopefully I can keep doing what I'm doing and it should be a great tournament."
In the opening round of the Women's World Matchplay, taking place on July 21st, Ashton faces off against the Welsh number one, Rhian O'Sullivan. If she can get through, a semi-final with either Fallon Sherrock or Anastasia Dobromyslova will await for the four time Women's World Champion.
