The field of participants and the draw for the Women's World Matchplay 2024 has been announced. Defending champion Beau Greaves will face Katie Sheldon at the iconic Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
The third edition prestigious event will be held on Sunday afternoon, July 21, at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports and through the PDC's worldwide broadcast partners.
Eight of the best players in women's darts will compete for the top prize of £10,000. The field of competitors consists of eight players who have performed best on a one-year Order of Merit since July 2023. Greaves managed to finish this qualifying race as number one. Greaves took the overall victory immediately on her debut in Blackpool 12 months ago and went on to win nine more Women's Series tournaments. The 20-year-old Englishwoman is currently considered the best player in the world.
Fallon Sherrock, winner of the 2022 Women's World Matchplay, will take on debutant Anastasia Dobromyslova. The three-time Women's World Champion managed to reach two finals at last year's Women's Series.
Lisa Ashton is seeded third at the Women's World Matchplay after 'The Lancashire Rose' won two Women's Series titles on Sunday. It earns her a duel with Rhian O'Sullivan. The Welshwoman is ranked number six on the ranking list. The remaining quarterfinal will be between Mikuru Suzuki, last year's losing finalist, and Noa-Lynn van Leuven. The latter lost to Greaves in the first round last year.
Originally, Aileen de Graaf had also qualified for the Women's World Matchplay after finishing number eight in the qualifying race. However, due to other commitments, De Graaf was unable to travel to Blackpool for this tournament. As a result, Katie Sheldon was advanced to the field of participants.
