Jeffrey de Zwaan had to skip the Players Championship tournament in Leicester this week because 'The Black Cobra' had too much trouble with his shoulder. It is the same shoulder that has bothered him more than once in recent years because of a persistent bursitis.
Due to intensive treatment, De Zwaan was doing better in recent months, but last weekend it suddenly kicked in again. ''Since Saturday I am in so much pain that I can't even lift my arm,'' De Zwaan wrote on his socials. The Leidschendam native was in limbo about the cause of the flaring shoulder injury and paid a visit to doctors and a physical therapist to find out more about his injury.
Meanwhile, De Zwaan received the results of the examination. "Okay, good news, it's not too serious. What I likely have is that the calcification on my tendon has entered my bursa. The doctor also said that this can cause severe pain, and the ultrasound showed there was fluid buildup in the bursa as well."
To combat the pain, De Zwaan received an injection. ''I’ve received an injection there and need to rest my shoulder as much as possible. They say the injection will take about a week to really take effect. So for now, I still don't know if I'll be able to play in the Players Championship next week, but I’m hoping for a quick recovery."
