Dave Chisnall has been the best player on the PDC Pro Tour in recent years. Last year he won three Euro Tours and two Players Championship tournaments, and this year the tally stands at two Euro Tours and two Players Championship titles.
In total, Chisnall already won 26 PDC ranking titles, but still lacks that coveted major title on his record. After losing to Martin Adams in the Lakeside final in 2010, Chisnall lost all six of his major finals at the PDC.
However, the Englishman did not do so against the least of players. Twice he lost to Phil Taylor in a major final, and three times Michael van Gerwen kept him from the title. His biggest chance was in 2022, when Chisnall lost 11-9 to Joe Cullen in the Masters final.
"Chizzy is winning them (European Tours) in 12,15,000 seater arenas. It’s not as if he only does it in front of a few people. We know he can do it. It’s still on TV, it’s probably a better atmosphere. Is it something where people have just got into his head. It’s getting Terry Jenkins levels. I used to watch those finals and had a feeling Terry thought he was never going to win those finals. It doesn’t feel like a finalist,'' said presenter Michael Bridge in a broadcast of Sky Sports' Love The Darts podcast.
Chisnall's next opportunity is at the World Grand Prix. This unique double-in double-out tournament will be held in Leicester from Monday, Oct. 7 to Sunday, Oct. 13.
