Noa-Lynn van Leuven caused a storm recently when she became the first transwoman ever to win a tournament on the Challenge Tour and on the PDC
Women's Series.
Besides people saying congratulations, there was also intense criticism of van Leuven. Her compatriots Anca Zijlstra and Aileen de Graaf refused to play with her for the Dutch national team. Also on social media she got a hard time, with the PDC's social media team disabling comments on any video featuring van Leuven.
"I didn't pick anything up at the venue but what I was reading afterwards made me really sad," says former BDO world champion and
PDPA director,
Glen Durrant in conversation with Sky Sports. "What I'm reading about Noa-Lynn and the whole politics of having a trans player playing in the women's series, it's not very nice."
Due to his position with the PDPA (players' union), Durrant has to consider the welfare of van Leuven, amidst the ongoing storm. "I've got to make sure of the health and well-being, the mental state of Noa-Lynn, when she's playing and afterwards," Durrant explains. "One thing I have noticed, is she's still on social media. So she's got to be reading some of the horrible stuff and it's got to affect her."
