He needed nine match darts, but Mervyn King has reached the third round of the 2019 PDC World Darts Championship. 'The King' defeated Jan Dekker.

Five breaks of throw and high finishes marked set one. King, who checked out 140 in the first leg, took it 3-2. Dekker managed to produce a 127-finish before the first interval as well.
The second set also went to 'The King', who quickly won it 3-0 against an out of sorts Dekker. A decider was required to decide set three. After King failed to check out 96, Dekker took out a ton under pressure to stay in the tournament.
The Dutchman also took set four to make it 2 sets each, but it required his opponent missing six match darts. Dekker then took a 2-1 lead to move within a leg of the match, but saw the Englishman reel off three consecutive legs to finally get over the line. The last leg went down went in dramatic fashion as King bust his score on 74, before both players missed a dart at double. The former semi-finalist at the Alexandra Palace then hit tops with his ninth match dart.
