Maik Kuivenhoven was eliminated from the World Darts Championship in London on Sunday and hoped to return to his wife and two children in the Netherlands on Monday. However, the borders are closed.
A more aggressive form of the coronavirus has broken out in the United Kingdom. The country has been locked up and people are no longer allowed to enter or leave the country. This means for the non-British World Championship competitors that they cannot return home at the moment.
Kuivenhoven is now stuck in his players hotel in London. “It's okay to be stuck here while you're still in the tournament, because then you can focus on that. But now I'm stuck here without anything to do. Fortunately, we can be together in the hotel, because everyone has been tested. We can have breakfast together and play cards. But after a day you are also fed up with that'', he told AD Westland.
The Dutchman hopes to be back home in time to spend Christmas with his family. My kids don't really understand what's going on. For them daddy is just playing darts abroad. I think this situation is more sour for me than it is for them. Anyway, you can't do anything about it. We just wait and see'', said Kuivenhoven.
