Gerwyn Price wins his 19th Players Championship at event nine in Leicester on Monday afternoon. The Iceman was too much for Ian White, beating him 8-4 in the final.
White had an impressive resurgent run with 'Diamond' who used to clean up for fun on the ProTour and has long struggled nearly on the verge of losing his Tour Card. He defeated Luke Littler en route in Leicester.
The match started at an impressive level with 3 holds of throw all in five visits seeing Price lead 2-1, White with the darts. That's when the Iceman showed his class, checking out 140 to break in twelve darts and lead the match 3-1.
After that, the standard dropped but the direction of the match stayed in the Iceman's favour. White was unable to checkout 20, letting Price hold in 21 darts to lead 4-1. White held his throw in leg six with a crucial 126 checkout.
Price won the next two legs to lead 6-2, with White missing key doubles in both legs, before Price went one away from the title, winning leg nine with a 78 checkout to lead 7-2.
In leg ten, Price could not take out 61 in two visits, missing 5 darts for the match, before missing another match dart in leg eleven.
Price eventually won the match in leg twelve, breaking in 12 darts and checking out 91 for the title.
