Luke Humphries has vowed to deal better with the whistling which saw him thrashed 6-2 by Luke Littler on the opening night of the
Premier League Darts and booed by fans in Cardiff as the 17-year-old darting superstar was given every boost by the fans in attendance who whistled during every match in an attempt to put off each player.
Humphries despite playing in Bahrain and Den Bosch had his first proper match back after winning the World Championship and was announced in Cardiff as a World Champion, but it soon turned sour as the crowd began to turn on him and he shook his head in anger and the way they were acting seemed to have its effect. He took to X and said that he needs to learn to block it out.
Other players including Gerwyn Price and Michael Smith have said that it will be a weekly occurrence having Littler in the tournament who ascended to global stardom after his run at the World Championship and has seen peaked interest in the sport. Moreso than ever before as Humphries took down the teenager in the final at the Alexandra Palace in January, but since then he hasn't faired as well in matches against 'The Nuke'.
"So sorry tonight guys. Was so looking forward to playing in the amazing city of Cardiff. I was gutted with the whistling, but I know that I have to learn to get better at that! Well done Luke for a fantastic debut game! I will work hard for the rest of the tournament," wrote Humphries on X (formerly known as Twitter).
