Luke Humphries will look to etch his name in the history books by becoming only one of a few players to win the World Matchplay and World Darts Championship in the same year when he faces Michael van Gerwen in a crunch final on Sunday night.
Humphries didn't know his opponent beforehand but said that he wants to pencil his name alongside Van Gerwen and Taylor as one of the best of all time for their respective darting rises.

"I remember being here a year ago and I remember walking out and devastated because I felt it was maybe the time I was finally going to pick up that first major title and Jonny's finishing really was brilliant. But I've achieved so much in the last 12 months. I think it's eight major finals in 10 now for me. I can't ask for too much more. We're in such a fantastic era of dart players that to do that it's something special so all eyes on trying to be that next person to win the World's and the Matchplay in the same year," said Humphries.
"I think there's only really Phil (Taylor) and Michael (van Gerwen) that's ever really done something so incredible in a short period of time. For me to go on and match the achievements of two of the greatest dart players in the world, there's no argument about that is very special for me. If I won tomorrow I'd definitely be up there in one of the best 12 months any dart player has ever had. So all eyes on trying to do that."
He also lauded James Wade and said he believes darts needs 'The Machine' and hopes he can be thrust back into the elite.
"That was one of the best performances I've seen from him in a long time so you can obviously tell that over the next sort of 5 months you're going to see a different James Wade. I'd love to see him back in the Premier League or the World Series because the sport needs people like James Wade to be honest."
