Luke Woodhouse impresses with extraordinary statistic on debut at World Grand Prix

Luke Woodhouse caused a resounding surprise at the World Grand Prix on Tuesday night by defeating outsider Dave Chisnall 2-0 in sets on his tournament debut.

Moreover, Woodhouse did so convincingly with an average of 95.96 and a finishing percentage of 43 percent. With his average, Woodhouse also joined a special list.

The Englishman's average was the fourth highest average ever by a rookie in his first match at the World Grand Prix. Only three players managed to throw an average of 96 or higher in their first match at the double-in double-out tournament. The record is held by Jeffrey de Zwaan, who debuted in 2018 with an average of 97.87. Following behind them are Gary Anderson (96.86 in 2009) and Ryan Joyce (96.61 in 2020).
