“Maybe sometimes too polite for darts”: Other players could learn from Veenstra says Michael van Gerwen

Michael van Gerwen was clearly a size too big for Richard Veenstra at the World Darts Championship on Wednesday night. The all Dutch encounter in London was won 4-0 by 'Mighty Mike';

So once again MVG did not lose a set at the World Darts Championship, having earlier defeated Keane Barry 3-0. Moreover, Van Gerwen played another strong match, this time averaging over 101. "After Christmas you always want to see where you stand. I was playing well and feel good," Van Gerwen told NOS afterwards.

Speaking to AD.nl, the three-time world champion then expressed praise for his compatriot. ''He is a fantastic guy, many people could learn something from that: very polite, maybe sometimes too polite for darts. The awe? Yes you do feel that, but I think he has a lot of qualities and has done an excellent job this World Championship'', Van Gerwen complimented his opponent Veenstra.

In the next round, Van Gerwen will play either Stephen Bunting or Florian Hempel. Van Gerwen doesn't have a preference. ''That doesn't interest me at all. Whoever comes your way, you have to beat them to win this World Championship,'' said the world number two.
