Netherlands and Wales still vying for better seeding at World Cup of Darts

That the Netherlands and Wales will receive seeded status at the World Cup of Darts alongside England and Scotland is already known, but the exact order of the top four seeded countries is not yet fully known.

England will lead the seeding list anyway. They currently have the world numbers one and two in their ranks with Michael Smith and Luke Humphries. Scotland will be the fourth seeded nation with Peter Wright (seventh) and Gary Anderson (21st).

The Netherlands is currently ranked number two on the ranking list. Michael van Gerwen is ranked number three in the world, while Danny Noppert is ranked 12th. Gerwyn Price is sixth on the PDC Order of Merit, while his teammate Jonny Clayton holds the 10th spot.

So in the summation, the Netherlands (15) has a better ranking than Wales (16) for now. When both countries are equal in the sum, it will be seen which country has the highest player in the world rankings. In all cases that will be the Netherlands, with Michael van Gerwen unable to be overtaken by Gerwyn Price prior to the cut-off.

The cutoff for the World Cup of Darts is on Monday, May 27. Before that, one more ranking tournament will be played; the Dutch Darts Championship in Rosmalen from May 24 to 26.

So Wales still needs to make up two more positions in the world rankings at the expense of the Netherlands to take over the second spot on the ranking list. That could happen, for example, if Gerwyn Price wins the Dutch Darts Championship. Then he will trade the sixth spot for the fourth spot on the PDC Order of Merit. Jonny Clayton has four players within touching distance who can be overtaken by a good result at the Euro Tour tournament in the Netherlands.

The next edition of the country tournament is scheduled for June 27-30 in Frankfurt. The Welsh duo Price and Clayton are the defending champions at the World Cup of Darts.
