Gerwyn Price is out at the first round stage at the World Matchplay for a fourth consecutive year after being dumped out by Danny Noppert in a 10-7 defeat.
Price as the World Number Two came into the tournament with his chances highly rated but his record at Blackpool wasn't great and this was shown again this time as he becomes the biggest name to fall so far.
He was below par in the opening stages and Noppert went into a 3-2 lead but it was still very much level with Price in particular hitting a 122 checkout to level it up at 4-4.
Despite that though, Noppert raced into a 6-4 lead forging a two leg cushion and after Price squandered two darts at double, he went three clear with a break at 7-4 up.
It was his turn to miss next time around with three at doubles passing him by and Price broke back for 7-5. Despite that though, it didn't prove a catalyst and Noppert was soon away again and one away at that from victory.
'The Iceman' kept in it with Noppert faltering towards the end with four missed match darts and a break but a 12 darter saw the Dutch No.2 claim it and make his mark in the opening round.
