Nathan Aspinall is through to the Last 16 of the Grand Slam of Darts alongside Alan Soutar in Group E after a 5-2 win over Peter Wright.
Aspinall knew the equation after Soutar's win over Fallon Sherrock and believes it was better knowing it was a question of straight knockout instead of leg difference.
"With the Fallon result the game before, I knew I had to go up there and win which is what we're used to. Straight knockout if you lose you're out. If you win you're through, it wasn't pretty. Listen none of my games have been pretty but I've done my job. This group stage, best of nine, we're not used to this and it's so cutthroat but what a 106. You see my celebration I gave it, in my head I'm thinking I've got two holds of throw. Surely I can hold my bottle and get through and luckily it didn't come down till the last leg," said Aspinall post match.
With Wright's wife Jo currently in hospital, Aspinall believes that his mind is elsewhere and that despite sympathy, he has to think about his family first.
"Peter's going through a bad time at the moment. Give me best to Jo (Wright, his wife), I hope she's ok. Obviously his head wasn't with it tonight. But I've just got to go up there and be professional and do my job and that's what I've done."
"Peter's been back and forth to the hospital for the last couple of days, while I've been playing Tiger Woods on the Playstation and going to the spa so I'm a lot calmer. I've not got things going on in my mind but at the end of the day, I'm there to provide for my family and I had to go up there and do a professional job."
