O'Connor seeing positives from 'disaster' final defeat: "If you told me before the weekend that I'd get to a final, I'd be absolutely ecstatic"

William O'Connor just fell short of a title at the Hungarian Darts Trophy on Sunday evening. 'The Magpie' lost 8-2 to Joe Cullen in his second European Tour final.

O'Connor managed to beat a number of big names in Budapest. After his victory over home player Pal Szekely (6-2), victories followed against Dimitri van den Bergh (6-3), Michael Smith (6-5), José de Sousa (6-4) and Nathan Aspinall (7-5) but there was no title at the end of it.

"The fantastic crowd in Budapest is one of the best crowds I've ever seen," said O'Connor. "If you told me before the weekend that I'd get to a final, I'd be absolutely ecstatic.

"Although it's a disaster to lose in any final - it's not nice - I don't mind losing to Joe. He's one of the best guys in the game and I wish him the very best in the future."
