In 'On This Day In...' Darts News looks back on a tournament or performance by a player on a particular date. This time, we look back to August 16, 2014.
This was the final day of the Singapore Darts Masters. This was it's first and only iteration on the World Series calendar and harked back to a time where the World Series was played without regional players.
This meant that only eight PDC players were present and the final was between
Michael van Gerwen and
Simon Whitlock. The latter defeat
Raymond van Barneveld and
Dave Chisnall; while the former saw off Andy Hamilton and James Wade.
'Mighty Mike' got off to a good start taking a 3-0 lead; however Whitlock returned proceedings to 3-3. In leg ten, he came back after a 47 finish with a break and after a 170 finish for 10-7, he claimed it 11-8.
