Devon Petersen recently appeared on the Not So Late Night Darts Show alongside Kirk Bevins, the PDC referee.
Petersen has had intermittent form since his breakout year in 2020 and he discussed how he goes into the World Matchplay still full of optimism.
"It was looking like it was gonna be a great year and I kind of adjusted with my equipment and tinkered a bit with my throw again and I got to the quarter-finals of the UK Open. Performed ok in some of the ProTours but the last ProTour wasn't great, just kind of figuring out before we actually go into the kind of business end of the season," said Petersen.
"I think now I'm happy where I am but I think I'd just like to polish it more and find some form at the right time.
"I think Jose de Sousa is a typical example of a great throw. Just needing to kind of evolve my throw because the ProTour is so fantastic and the standard is high. If you want to compete, you've got to change some small things to maintain that level."
Looking back at 2020 saw his maiden European Tour triumph and it is one moment, he looks back on with massive fondness.
"Germany, I've always loved the place and obviously travelling there and the Euro Tours, I've always felt like there's an opportunity in the EuroTour because it's such a quick fire tournament. It's all the top players and having those 500 people, that was the first time we had crowds back since the lockdown and to win it in front of them, you could hear everybody talking. When it got to the final day, everybody was so captivated. Just looking there and almost not getting a tear in my eye but I can almost get that feeling again."
