The Winter Series begins later on Tuesday with five days of action coming from Coventry with a lot on the line in terms of the rest of the year with three tournaments having spots up for grabs.

They are of course the Grand Slam of Darts with the winner of the Order of Merit from the Winter Series getting a spot, as well as having one eye on the World Championship with many players low down on the Order of Merit wanting to avoid going to the PDPA Qualifier at the end of the month.

As well as of course the Players Championship Finals which will also shift to Coventry this year with the cut off being this weekend before the Grand Slam of Darts.

Who will qualify for the season ending event though? Peter Wright is top of the standings with £62,250 with the new World Number Two claiming three events this year ahead of Michael van Gerwen who is on two but will miss at least the first few days so he will likely go down the Order of Merit.

Gerwyn Price is next with the Welshman dominant in the Autumn Series winning two events in Niedernhausen as well as winning an event in Wigan. He has also reached three finals as well.

This puts him ahead of Nathan Aspinall who has won two events both at the start of the year before the Coronavirus lockdown. He sits in fourth.

While James Wade rounds out the top five with a solitary title this year ahead of Ian White, Krzysztof Ratajski and Glen Durrant among others.

Further down Nick Kenny currently occupies the final spot for the Players Championship Finals with £7,000 but with a queue of big names including Jelle Klaasen, Lisa Ashton, Robert Thornton and Andy Hamilton all behind him among others.

It could be a really interesting week to cement the final spots with players as high as 49th such as Dimitri van den Bergh not 100% safe.
