Luke Littler has been unleashed in the semifinals of the 2024 World Series of Darts Finals. Winning the last nine legs without reply, Littler eased past Michael van Gerwen with a 108 average.
The beginning of the match was for Van Gerwen, but after six legs the 35-year-old from the Netherlands fell completely silent. Moreover, Littler started throwing unprecedentedly well after that. The 17-year-old teenage sensation concluded the wdstrijd with an average of 107.95 and a finishing percentage of 45.8 percent.
Van Gerwen opened the match with a 13-darter to break Littler and then took a 2-0 lead with a 94 finish. Leg three went to Littler before Van Gerwen threw out 73 to lead 3-1. With an 11-darter, Littler limited the deficit going into the first break.
The second session was started sharply by Van Gerwen, who managed to take a 4-2 lead with a 12-darter. Littler was a bit slower in the next leg, but Van Gerwen could not take advantage. 'The Nuke' halved the deficit with a 16-darter to 3-4, then made it 4-4 with a 13-darter.
Littler then quickly distanced himself from Van Gerwen, who had no chance of hitting a double in the remainder of the match. Littler took the lead for the first time with a 15-darter in the ninth leg, then made it 6-4 with a 13-darter.
With a 14-darter and a 10-darter, the Englishman then doubled the lead to 8-4. A 14-darter then brought Littler to 9-4, before another 14-darter ensured the reigning junior world champion needed just one more leg. Van Gerwen was on top after four innings in the 15th leg, but had no chance to throw for it. With a 72 finish, Littler secured the win and a place in the final.
