Simon Whitlock reached the second round of the 2024 German Darts Championship on the European Tour, Friday night. The iconic Australian prevailed 6-4 over Callan Rydz, hitting five 180s in the process.

"Honestly, that meant so much to me," reflected Whitlock in his post-match interview afterwards. "It's the first one I've qualified for all year long and I've had some bad beats this year, but I keep fighting like I always do. So, sorry to Callan but yeah, I need to start winning some matches."

Whitlock's slump of late has been so severe, if it carries on much longer, his long held PDC Tour Card could be at risk. "Yeah I just need to win some matches," he sighs exasperatedly.

In the next round though, things don't get easier as Whitlock has to face defending German Darts Championship winner and home crowd favourite, Ricardo Pietreczko. "Ricardo, I'm just going to say sorry now because you're finished!" Whitlock jokes fiercely.
