Richard Veenstra could throw carefree against Kim Huybrechts: ''Now everything is bonus, playing nice and free''

With an excellent match, Richard Veenstra surprisingly easily qualified for the third round at the World Darts Championship on Saturday afternoon. He defeated Kim Huybrechts 3-0 in sets.

''I didn't expect this,'' Veenstra responded afterwards at Viaplay. ''I already felt so much better with throwing in (than last time, ed.). I finally had the calmness because I was throwing in so well. The first game I wanted to win so badly and maybe too badly, and now everything is bonus. Playing nice and free and I actually did that.''

He could not have wished for a better start to the match. In the first leg, he immediately threw out 136. "I think that's the junction. He threw a 180 in the first 2 legs and both of those legs win in. From there he actually missed every chance and I threw everything out. I felt super."

This victory thus ensures that Veenstra may return to Alexandra Palace after Christmas. For the next few days, 'Flyers' will also stay in London. "My wife and kids are here anyway so we'll celebrate Christmas nicely in London. After that we'll see."

A cracker awaits at the last 32 of the World Darts Championship with compatriot Mchael van Gerwen. "Yes, fun right? I'm already looking forward to that," the 42-year-old Veenstra concluded.
